- Create your own alternative homepage
- View existing pages and edit them
- Play around with the Site Settings and see what happens ;)
- Upload images - you can find a good source of free images at http://www.pexels.com
- Use widgets to add tabs or accordions to your pages
- Create a page from a template or build it from scratch to see more options, especially for layouts
Note: Other people will edit the site at the same time as you so you will see their changes as well as your own!

Should this be a WYSIWYG?
You can build your own lists using the Related Content widget. Experiment with the various display styles. Some styles will work well in this narrow column - others will look a bit odd here but suit a list built in a wide column.
